Description
San Francisco is the place, 1969 is the time in this open-world action game inspired by Hollywood heist films. Designed with a nod to the Grand Theft Auto series, Heist stars an ex-con named Johnny Sutton, who is lured back to the high-stakes rush of big-time scores. The primary goal? The San Francisco Mint, but in order to get there, you'll have to prove your bank robbing skills in an assortment of lesser heists. Each bank has various strengths and weaknesses that must be exploited to ensure a successful job. Cameras, vault strength, guards, and similar stats are presented before each potential score. Once inside the bank, Sutton can assign roles to his crew, from cracking safes to keeping an eye on scared civilians. Sutton's accomplices have minds of their own, however, and may not follow each direction exactly as planned. Players can decide to punish or reward these individuals, ultimately affecting their relationship with Sutton in future heists. Played from a third-person perspective set behind the lead protagonist, Heist offers a free-roaming city with the ability to enter (and rob) bars, restaurants, strip clubs, and other establishments. Sutton can even broker deals with "connected" union workers, irate activists, and other groups to provide helpful distractions. As players acquire the tools of the trade and learn how to bypass security systems and neutralize armed guards, their newfound reputation will attract the attention of local law enforcement. Police chases and high-speed getaways are a big part of Heist, with players trying to elude their pursuers on busy city streets while minimizing civilian casualties. The police will set up barricades, ram vehicles, and do whatever it takes to bring Sutton and his safecracking crew down, so driving skills are must to continue a lucrative life of crime. In addition to the clothing, hairstyles, and muscle cars from the time period, Heist also includes a 1960s-era soundtrack to groove to while knocking off banks.
