Andrew Grundy, President
and Co-Founder
Andy Grundy, President and Co-Founder of Spun.com, has proven that
he knows how to market music in the highly competitive $40-plus
billion music industry. With his brother, Steve, he has developed
the world's first real-time online music exchange, offering far
more than other music retail Web sites.
"I look at myself as a perfect example of the kind of customer
that will find Spun.com attractive," says Grundy. "Over
the years as my taste in music changed or I got tired of a CD that
I played constantly, they simply stacked up on the shelves."
Now, Spun.com has created a way for consumers to exchange CDs, receive
credit and use that virtual credit to purchase other new and used
digital entertainment.
During the last nine years, Grundy worked first for Sony Music
Distribution and then for Sony-owned Columbia Records, the largest
music label in the world. As manager of artist development and director
of sales and marketing, Grundy promoted Mariah Carey, Billy Joel,
Bruce Springsteen, Bob Dylan, Oasis and Pearl Jam, among others.
Ultimately, Grundy oversaw sales and marketing efforts for half
of the United States.
His corporate success notwithstanding, Grundy saw technological
change was accelerating and, in turn, altering the retail landscape.
"As more people become familiar with computers and the Internet,
consumers become increasingly more comfortable with buying online.
So purchasing online has become the more convenient, even preferred,
method of buying for many consumers. The benefits associated with
online shopping far outweigh the consumer's need to 'touch and feel'
the product, especially with music," states Grundy.
"For the last two years, my brother, Steve, and I developed
this concept. It seemed that the time was ripe to take advantage
of his expertise and business acumen. My contribution to Spun.com
is an in-depth knowledge of the music industry and corporate experience,"
states Grundy. By fall of 1998, the brothers had incorporated and
launched a private placement offering that enabled them to devote
all of their energy to the introduction of Spun.com.
Grundy has always been involved and interested in the field of
music. He began taking piano lessons at the age of seven and picked
up the guitar at twelve. Since that time, he has played and taught
guitar, as well as produced, arranged and written music. "Early
on, I began looking for a way to blend my personal passion for music
with my career. During my senior year internship at Rolling Stone
Magazine, I learned, first hand, the nature of the music business
and its difficulties," explains Grundy. "In deciding to
venture into the business, my previous experience enhanced my understanding
of music from a musician's standpoint. With Spun.com, we have created
the best forum for me to combine my acquired skills and relationships
in the music industry with my love of music."
A graduate of DePauw University in Indiana, Grundy, now resides
in Pasadena, CA.

Steven Grundy, CTO and Co-Founder
Steve Grundy, CTO and Co-Founder of Spun.com, began his career
as an independent programmer. He soon built a successful software
venture based on his initial contract and professional experience.
That venture, established in 1983, evolved into an Internet and
Web site development company. Its acquisition in 1998 laid the groundwork
for the development of Spun.com.
"Fortunately, I was involved with Web site development and
programming in its infancy," states Grundy. "During the
last few years, I have expanded and developed new applications for
that technology on the Internet. Spun.com is the latest and most
exciting."
Grundy's hands-on expertise in programming and Web site development
fueled the strong growth of the company. By the mid-90s, his company
evolved from software development into a Web site design firm and,
within a few years, the company's Internet services became more
than 90 percent of its business. His expertise and clear understanding
of what is required to build a successful e-commerce enterprise
ensures that Spun.com will give its customers a seamless shopping,
exchange and information-gathering experience.
Grundy sold his company to another Web design and hosting firm
so he could devote 100 percent of his time, talent and energy to
collaborating with his brother, Andy, and making their dream of
an online music exchange a reality.
Grundy's entrepreneurial skills, operational knowledge and Internet
expertise helped build Spun.com's incredibly large virtual storefront
of CDs -- new and old -- with features no other online music retailer
offers. Expansion into DVDs and video games was a logical extension
of the Spun model.
"Spun.com has shifted the paradigm for online entertainment
retailers by offering a used CD, DVD and game exchange service,"
states Grundy. "Our decision to partner with established companies,
such as distribution warehouses, makes it possible for us to place
all of our attention on operating our site and marketing its benefits."
Growing up, Grundy was the one in his family who liked to understand
how things worked. His technical aptitude motivated his father to
buy him an Apple II in 1978. He recalls, "With those early
computers, technology was a lot more transparent to the end-user.
My experience with them, even as a high school student, made it
possible for me to understand what was happening behind-the-scenes.
I worked at understanding how to program software and even build
hardware for this emerging discipline, not just develop a surface
knowledge of how to use a piece of equipment. For me, technology
has always represented a sense of adventure and fun, as well as
an elegant way to get things done."
A graduate of DePauw University in Indiana, Grundy, resides in
the Northern suburbs with his wife, Debbie, their three daughters,
and son.
